Mexico is an enthusiastic country while Mexican traditional cuisine was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO last year. In September, the Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong is pleased to celebrate the National Month of Mexico by inviting the internationally-renowned Mexican Chef Mari Carmen Saénz to Hong Kong for showcasing the authentic taste of Mexico at Regal Kowloon Hotel. Having acquired international recognition, Chef Mari Carmen Saénz is a multi-faceted chef and has represented Mexico to promote its traditional cuisine in different countries. She was also one of the committees that achieved the inscription of the Mexican Cuisines on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Corns, beans and chili peppers are 3 main ingredients for daily Mexican cooking. These staples together with cacti and avocado leaves are the major elements for preparing the Mexican daily food like Tacos, Tortilla and Mexican baked beans. Green tomatoes and tomatoes are commonly used in making the sauces for the cuisines. The Mexican also based on their preferences, widely apply different kinds of chilies to enrich the flavour of the dishes.

During Chef Saénz’s visit, over 40 Mexican delicacies and cocktails are available at Mezzo Grill, Café Allegro and Basso Bar of Regal Kowloon Hotel. Some extraordinary highlights include: Cactus Salad, Thick Tortilla with Fried Smashed Beans and Meat Toppings, Tacos, Fried Shrimps with Garlic, Lemon, Chili Peppers and Tequila, as well as Tequila Orange Mousse, etc.
